One of the main reasons I decided to use Wordpress for my blog was the huge list of available  plugins. Ive spent many hours looking for useful plugins,  so here is my strategically handpicked list for a Wordpress blog.

1. Akismet – This excellent plugin will stop spam dead in its tracks,  however you will need to make sure you have a Wordpress API key to use it.
2. Antivirus – Viruses, worms and malware exist for WordPress and could easily attack your WordPress installation. AntiVirus for WordPress monitors malicious injections and warns you of any possible attacks.
3. Bad Behavior – Deny automated spambots access to your PHP-based Web site.
4. Google XML Sitemaps – This plugin will generate a sitemaps.org compatible sitemap of your WordPress blog which is supported by Ask.com, Google, MSN Search and YAHOO.
5. Inspector Wordpress – Monitors hack attempts.
6. Platinum SEO Pack – Complete SEO solution for your Wordpress blog.
7. Secure Wordpress – Little basics for secure your WordPress-installation.
8. SexyBookmarks – SexyBookmarks adds a (X)HTML compliant list of social bookmarking icons to each of your posts.
9. Wordpress Database Backup – On-demand backup of your WordPress database.
10. Wordpress Super Cache – Very fast caching plugin, It generates html files that are served directly by Apache without processing comparatively heavy PHP scripts. By using this plugin you will speed up your WordPress blog significantly.
